Careers in the Data Industry
If we are really following the pace at which technology is
moving we are forced to realize that there will be a growing need for people to
be employed in the industry. The use of data is paramount in many aspects of
our everyday lives and is used to influence decision making. According to Feyzi Bagirov, Professor of
Analytics at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’ “We are entering
an era of the Internet Of Things (IoT), and by 2020, about 30 billion objects
may be connected to the (IoT), compared to roughly 10 billion in 2013. The
amount of data generated will continue to grow tremendously.” https://www.quora.com/What-career-can-a-data-analyst-have-in-the-future
It is easy to assume that the field of data technology will
require many “hands on board” to fulfill employment shortfalls. Feyzi Bairov also wrote “McKinsey
Institute predicted in 2011, that "By 2018, the United States alone could
face a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with deep analytical skills as
well as 1.5 million managers and analysts with the know-how to use the analysis
of big data to make effective decisions." https://www.quora.com/What-career-can-a-data-analyst-have-in-the-future Overcoming this shortage requires insightful
thinking on how to attract people to the industry. Just like the healthcare industry I believe
that more educational institutions will fashion their curriculum to address the
predicted shortfall in an industry that is expected to grow indefinitely. There is no tome for a “wait and see” it is
time to take action to keep up with the pace of technological advancement.
